my paper and The great question
The question that is going to fuel my project and my research paper is "How can theatre be a successful tool in drawing awareness to the issue of sexism and violence against women?"
I want to explore the idea of "theatre of the oppressed," which is a movement to use theatre to give voice to different oppressed groups. I will look at specific pieces that are dedicated to women's rights. One I already know of is a play about domestic violence called The Yellow Dress.
I want to see to what extent these different theatre movements have been effective in educating people about their respective topics, but also if they had any tangible effects. Ideally my project would inspire some kind of action in addition to changing someones state of mind.
Another part of my paper would definitely be exploring what techniques I could use in my own play that would make it more impactful.
